A little history
In 1954 a group of citizens from the Rendon
Community got together and decided they needed a
Fire Department.
By this time Mansfield, Everman and a few others around Rendon already had
Volunteer Fire Departments. So, one night on the steps of the old elementary
school a group sat down and formed the Rendon Volunteer Fire Department.
Armed with little more than a small pumper truck "they built" they began
responding to fires within the community of Rendon. As the years passed things
changed, the department grew, it gained more area and built a new building. They
scraped all they had and set it as the foundation for the years to come. In 2004
we celebrated our 50th year of service.
Now days we are still growing and still making calls to our community.
Currently we have one Engine, one Tanker, two Brush Trucks, one Rescue, two MICU
Ambulances, a Command Vehicle and a Rehab Truck. we also have a trailer that
carries a cascade system for filling breathing air bottles and a big portable
fan that blows cold air for rehab.
We cover about 37 square miles of district within Tarrant County, and about
10 square miles of district within Johnson County. We make approxcimently1200
calls annually.
We maintain a volunteer roster of about 30 volunteers. We also maintain a
paid roster of 17 paid employees who work 12 hour shifts day and night. we staff
two Paramedic Firefighters and one EMT Firefighter from 6 AM to 6 PM, and one
Paramedic Firefighter, one EMT Firefighter from 6 PM to 6 AM. Our volunteers
back-up our paid staff on incidents too large for two or three firefighters to
handle.
We just recently adopted all Texas Commission on Fire Protection rules and
regulations. Along with our volunteers and paid firefighters we also have a paid
Fire Chief. The paid Fire Chief over-sees day to day budget, operations,
staffing, and other logistical operations. We now have a combination department
which means we are some paid and some volunteer.
